Lesson 11 of 13

The fork

A fork is a move where one piece attacks two enemy pieces at once. The opponent can only save one.

One piece, two targets

The knight is the fork master: its jump is hard to see. Look for a square where it attacks a king and a rook at the same time.

Pawns fork too

A pawn that attacks two pieces diagonally is a pawn fork. Always check that the opponent can't refute the fork with a check or a capture.
